Building services (HVAC & Lighting)

The building services dedicated to ensure a comfortable, healthy indoor environment inside buildings are known as “Heating ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC)”. With this purpose, HVAC systems are devoted to keep indoor humidity, temperature and level of pollutants within an acceptable or legal range.

In order to fulfil the comfort requirements of the users, the HVAC systems have to extract the heating or cooling load inside the building and provide fresh air from outdoors at room temperatures. These systems have one of the biggest shares of energy use in buildings. Therefore, it is very important to design the building based on passive strategies that minimize the need for heating, cooling and ventilation and active strategies that deploy high efficient systems with minimal consumption.

MORE-CONNECT

The European building sector is currently unable to offer an integral solution for deep renovation toward nearly zero energy building (nZEB) at reasonable cost. The building process is typically based on a ‘layered’ structure, with many labour actions on the buildings site, with many sub... Continue reading

IMPRESS

IMPRESS will leverage on the potential of prefabrication by developing a new range of easy to install panels, which can reduce energy demand while preserving and/or improving building aesthetics. Three prefabricated panels will be developed, both for re-cladding and over-cladding, together with... Continue reading

SINFONIA

The SINFONIA project is a five-year initiative to deploy large-scale, integrated and scalable energy solutions in mid-sized European cities. At the heart of the initiative is a unique cooperation between the cities of Bolzano (Italy) and Innsbruck (Austria), working hand in hand to achieve 40% to... Continue reading

SCHOOL OF THE FUTURE

The aim of the School of the Future project was to design, demonstrate, evaluate and communicate shining examples of how to achieve the high performance building of the future. School buildings and their primary users - pupils - were the focus of the project. Both the energy and indoor environment... Continue reading

READY

The READY project aims to demonstrate how the demand of energy and particularly the needs for fossil fuels and release of CO2 can be considerably reduced to nearly zero, and show a sustainable way to go for other European cities. Demonstration is taking place in two cities: Aarhus (Denmark), which... Continue reading
